I probably should mention that I am a complete neophyte at blogging. I have a new idea for the New Year that I would like to work out. I thought a blog would be a great way to stay organized and hopefully work some art/ tech collaboration.
My background: I am a frustrated artist, mainly because I have little time to work on my art, when I do find time it is usually late at night so my blogs will likely be the same way. I am also an aspiring art educator working on my masters in what else? Art Education. I love this part of my life. I think I was born to teach, when you look at my resume I have a lot of different job titles but somehow I always ended up training or teaching someone something. I also love learning...one day I hope to teach in a museum or at a college...I have a ways to go. Okay back to the rest of my life; I am also a mother, wife, docent at a museum (volunteer), substitute teacher (mainly art), part-time AutoCad tech and homeroom mom. Obviously this is the part of my life that makes me a frustrated artist. After all it is hard to concentrate on creating art when you juggle all those schedules.
My New Idea: I mentioned I volunteer at a museum? Awhile back the museum I work at 1-2 days per week held a week long program affiliated with a group called VSA (Very Special Arts). You can click the link to go to their website, it is a great organization. The kids and volunteers were amazing; I started thinking about how difficult it is for kids with disabilities to work their way through a museum on a normal day. This week was specially set up for them so it was easier but day to day there were not many resources out there to help them connect in a museum setting. I admit this stewed for the better part of last year until I saw an article in the New York Times called Finding Apps for Children with Autism. I was surprised at the number of apps out there and thought maybe I could look at developing an app or series of apps to help children with disabilities connect while they are visiting a museum. Of course this would mean I needed to learn how to create an app, which at that time I had never even attempted...but I thought what the hell, I am not busy right now. So that is where I will start: I am learning how to build an app. This blog will be the journey, considering the ups and downs that started day one I have a feeling it will not be dull.
